Bosch, Hieronymus

Bosch, Hieronymus
(c1450-1516 Hertogen-bosch) (Netherlands)
   aka Bosch van Aeken
Painter. A major figure in Northern Renaissance art, his fantasy visions while not unique, certainly stand out as unusually imaginative for his era. Various interpretations have been proposed to explain his Garden of Earthly Delights, with its landscape of figures, many of whom are involved in what appears to be sexual activity, but its true meaning is still mysterious.
